Outcomes and Results:For the entire kindergarten № 189 “Sto usmivki” (“A hundred smiles” in EN), Sofia, October 16th, 2017 was a festive day of knowledge and creativity, a celebration of nutritious, healthy and tasty food, of educating in an attitude and appreciation of food, of discussions about the food shortage global problem and building empathy among the children towards all people suffering from starvation and malnutrition around the world. The materials provided by the project to the kindergarten will be used over a period of time. The children react with great interest and the feedback collected from them demonstrates that they have memorized all curious facts they have been acquainted with. Here below are presented in short the activities within the groups: Group “Little Lions” – 3–4 years old 1. Sharing the topic “I am a tasty fruit and vegetable” with the children by means of the “Fruits and vegetables” poem. 2. Presenting to the little ones the importance and healthiness of eating fruits and vegetables every day. 3. Having a discussion about the various foods and the benefits from them with the help of a demonstrational dashboard with images of different foods. 4. Making the knowledge sustainable by asking the children to group vegetables and fruits separately. 5. Coloring a favorite fruit or vegetable by choice. 6. Playing a moving game: „Bring the carrot“ Group “Little Bunnies“ – 4–5 years old 1. Making seasonal fruit skewers – pears, apples, grapes. Group “Little stars”– 4–5 years old 1. Having a discussion about autumn fruits and vegetables. 2. Coloring fruits. 3. Presenting the food pyramid and the place of fruits and vegetables in it. Group “Little ladybugs“ – preparatory group - 5–6 years old 1. Presenting curious and interesting facts about different fruits and vegetables by means of a presentation. Conducting a discussion about their importance as a part of the everyday nutrition. 2. Presenting the global food lack problem and helping the children to appreciate the opportunity to eat healthy. 3. An experiment with an apple and a potato. Presenting their specifics and benefits as food products. 4. Organizing a practical activity with the help of the mothers, who prepared healthy biscuits, sweetened with honey and raisins and garnished with muesli. Discussing the contents of the biscuits and how they are good for the growth, good health and physical development. Decorating the biscuits with fruits, cut in various shapes. Group “Butterflies”- preparatory group - 5–6 years old 1. Conducting a discussion about the beneficial properties of fruits, which should be a part of the everyday menu. 2. Presenting the problem with the lack of food for children in some places in the world. 3. Application “A bowl of fruits”. 4. Creating the image of an African children with fruits, as a symbol of compassion for the many starving children in that part of the world. Group “Laughing ones” /„Smehorani“/ 1. Implementing a practical situation on the topic: “In Smehorani’s kitchen”. 2. Conducting a discussion about the importance of food for the life of humans, the need for healthy and nutritious substances and vitamins. 3. Having the children prepare a beautiful, interesting, fun and healthy breakfast. 4. Coloring “A bowl of fruits”.
